PP Chvaletice - Removal of Impurities from the Cooling Water Circuit

KRÁLOVOPOLSKÁ RIA, a.s., executed the “Removal of coarse impurities from the cooling water circuit of the blocks 2, 3, 4" Project for the Chvaletice power plant. The Project was aimed to increase the efficiency and reliability of the blocks cooling system and to reduce maintenance costs.

The Chvaletice power plant is located to the west of the city of Pardubice. It was put into operation in 1979 and the total installed capacity of 800 MW is provided by four 200 MW blocks.

The power plant utilises the open cooling circuit with cooling towers for the cooling of condensers and auxiliary systems. Cooling water is mechanically contaminated with the impurities, which cause operational problems and worsen plant operation economy. To remove these impurities three self-cleaning, full-flow filters were delivered and installed into the main cooling water inlet.
